Stinger Tailwheel Academy is South Florida’s home for authentic stick-and-rudder flying. Led by passionate instructors with decades of combined experience, we specialize in tailwheel training in a Citabria 7GCBC & J3 Cub. Conveniently based at Miami Homestead General Aviation Airport (X51), we have access to multiple grass strips and some of the most stunning airspace in the country — with the Florida Keys just a short flight away. We’re proud to teach from such a beautiful corner of the world — and we carry a deep appreciation for the land, water, and skies.

Stinger Tailwheel Academy, LLC (STAL) was founded by two instructors who share a love for flying tailwheel, honoring aviation’s heritage, and sustainability. On our fly-in farm, we raise honey bees and grow fruit trees. The bees remind us that both flight and nature require our respect. The tailwheel is our stinger: incredibly rewarding when flown with skill and intention.

A century ago, nearly every pilot learned to fly in a taildragger because it built true airmanship — and we believe those same fundamentals still matter today. Many of our students come to us looking for something more: to build real skill, to fall back in love with aviation, and to feel connected to the flying community. Our mission is to meet that need with personalized training that brings confidence, joy, and meaning into the cockpit. We welcome pilots from all backgrounds and experience levels, and we are passionate about creating an environment that’s supportive, challenging, and fun!
